Why can I not debit accounts receivable and credit sales?

I am working with QB 2009 Prereceivableactors edition. I have a negative AR balance and want to credit it to sales. I have tried making a jounal entry to debit AR and credit sales. However when I look at the finacial reports and te individual accounts, the journal entry does not show up. I have used other accounts instead of AR and the journal entry posts. Why will it not post for AR, the same is true if I try to post to AP?

1. I think you'll need to post individual invoices or sales receipts to specific customer accounts. QB won't let you directly adjust the balance of the control accounts A/R and A/P.
